First phase II deployment during wildfire smoke event
Aerosol Black Carbon Detectors (ABCDs) were deployed at Richmond Air Monitoring Network sites across Richmond-San Pablo during a three-week period that included numerous days of heavy wildfire smoke.

2019 carb community air grants AWARDEE
PSE was awarded California Air Resources Board (CARB) funding to grow the Richmond Air Monitoring Network for Phase II of our work with Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN) and other community organizations to study air pollution, including black carbon and particulate matter, in the Richmond, North Richmond, and San Pablo areas. PSE published a blog post showing early evidence that suggests the region’s shelter in place order, along with the associated social and economic changes, may have slowed the spread of the novel coronavirus, reducing cases of COVID-19 respiratory disease and likely saving many lives. Air monitor deployments begin
PSE began deploying the first set of 20 Aeroqual AQY air monitors throughout Richmond-San Pablo. Dr. Boris Lukanov presented an update on the Richmond Air Monitoring Network at the December Richmond-San Pablo Community Air Monitoring Plan Steering Committee meeting.

PSE PARTICIPATED IN THE RICHMOND-SAN PABLO CLEAN AIR COMMUNITY SUMMIT
PSE hosted a table and shared materials at the Richmond-San Pablo Path to Clean Air Community Summit. PSE also completed the initial field calibration of the first batch of Aeroqual AQY air quality monitors and set up a second batch of monitors for initial field calibration at CARB’s Monitoring and Laboratory Division in Sacramento, CA.

Technical Advisory Committee Launches
PSE hosted the first Technical Advisory Committee meeting for the Richmond Air Monitoring Network. This technical advisory committee includes experts on air pollution and public health. Committee members will provide valuable oversight to support the scientific integrity of the air monitoring project.

Steering Committee votes to utilize PSE/APEN data
At the June monthly meeting, the Richmond-San Pablo Community Air Monitoring Plan Steering Committee voted to utilize the data collected through the PSE/APEN Richmond Air Monitoring Network to inform development of the community air monitoring plan. The Steering Committee, comprising local residents, community-based organizations, industry, and others, will guide development of an additional air monitoring plan to inform future emission reduction efforts in Richmond-San Pablo.

PSE Creates Emissions Inventory Interactive Map
PSE launched the Richmond Emissions Inventory Interactive Map, which shows annual criteria pollutant and toxic air pollutant emissions reported for stationary sources in the Richmond-San Pablo area. The tool also provides information on the sensitive populations in the area and incorporates CalEnviroScreen 3.0 data.

FIRST AERoQUAL AIR QUALITY monitors RECEIVED
PSE received the first batch of Aeroqual AQY1 monitors. These monitors will collect measurements minute-by-minute for ozone, particulate matter (PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide, temperature, humidity, and dew point.

Dr. Boris Lukanov was appointed to the Richmond-San Pablo Community Air Monitoring Plan Steering Committee, with Lee Ann Hill, MPH, serving as an alternate on behalf of PSE. PSE & APEN Receive an ab 617 community air grant
The California Air Resources Board announced the recipients of the first round of Assembly Bill 617 (AB 617) Community Air Grants. PSE Healthy Energy and the Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN) received a three-year grant to establish an air monitoring network in Richmond, North Richmond, and San Pablo located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
