Dr. Finkel earned her Ph.D. in epidemiology and health services research from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of New York University. Her professional career was spent at Weill Cornell Medicine where she held the rank of Professor of Population Health Sciences. She also served for 17 years as the inaugural Director of the Office of Global Health Medical Education. She retired from Weill Cornell in 2023, although continues to work with colleagues around the world on bettering the health and well-being of women. In 2019, Dr. Finkel established The Madelon Global Health Foundation to continue making a difference in women and children’s lives. The Foundation supports non-profit organizations that provide health care in underserved areas, as well as those focused on mitigating the effects of climate change. She is a prolific author of scientific research articles and 15 books, two of which discuss the impact of climate change on human health. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors.
