Dr. Nap Hosang is a member of PSE Healthy Energy’s board of directors and the CEO and co-founder of Pelagius Inc., a small Pharma start-up. Dr. Hosang is also member of the Maternal and Child Health Program faculty at the School of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley and is the Director of Berkeley’s Online Professional MPH degree program. Before joining the Berkeley faculty he was on the medical faculty at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica.
Dr. Hosang has 25 years of experience in Maternal and Child Health service delivery in developing countries and 30 years of experience as a practicing obstetrician/gynecologist. During this time, Dr. Hosang spent 24 years at Kaiser Permanente, a large multi-specialty group in Northern California. At Kaiser Permanente he was a senior physician administrator overseeing all hospitals and outpatient operations for this 300+ physician group until his retirement from clinical practice in 2010.
Dr. Hosang is also chairman of two California based non-profit companies. The first is Impact Carbon, a carbon emission mitigation firm that popularized the production of cleaner-burning biomass-fueled cookstoves and clean water systems. The other is Venture Strategies, Innovations (VSI) a firm that championed national FDA approvals for the use of misoprostol in many developing countries to mitigate mortality from bleeding after childbirth. This innovation is now a widely adopted standard of care by the World Health Organization and bilateral aid agencies serving the least developed countries worldwide.
Dr. Hosang received his medical degree at The University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica, and his MPH and MBA at UC Berkeley.
